Dear parishioners and friends of our parish,
Christ is in our midst! He is and ever shell be!
I pray and I hope that this email finds you well.
I would like to inform all of you that following the guidelines from our Diocesan Hierarch, His Eminence Archbishop Alexander, we will be opening our church to the faithful for participation in services.
Here are some details:
Re-Opening Plan:
— As of now, we will be serving at 50% capacity; based on the calculation of the square footage of our church and 8 ft. spacing per person, we can have total of 12 people in the church, including the choir, ushers/greeters, and not including clergy/altar servers.
— After 14 day downward virus trend in Broward/Fort Lauderdale we will be able to accommodate 24 people total. If the trend continues, we will have incremental increase of cohort size.
— Since the participation will be limited at the beginning of our re-opening and to accommodate all the faithful who will be willing to participate in the services, an ATTENDANCE LIST for each service will be created, so it will be NECESSARY TO CONTACT fr. Igor, who will be in charge of the list. No “show-up” participation will be allowed for now, and the door will be locked 15 minutes after the beginning of the service (for now we will use the front door entrance only, the side door to the church will be locked).
— If needed, additional Liturgies will be scheduled during the week.
Parish Guidelines:
— Anyone who is high-risk (according to CDC guidelines) or has contact with COVID patients will have to stay home at this time.
— Parishioners of our parish CANNOT attend other parishes or large gatherings. Anyone attending any other parish, or any large gathering will have to self-quarantine himself for 14 days, before returning to our church services.
— All parishioners (except choir members and altar servers) MUST WEAR MASKS at all times
— Because of small space, choir will be limited to one person (Matushka) at this time.
— Parishioners must limit their movement in the church, and stay in designated spots
— All attendees must sanitize hands upon entering the church (hand sanitizer will be provided)
Prepping the temple
— The entire church will be cleaned/sanitized prior to each service
— X’s will be taped to the floor/pews with 8 ft spacing between
— 1 or 2 ushers will be designated to control/guide the entry and exit process
During the services
— Usher will admit 1 person at a time
— Parishioner will immediately sanitize hands (a bottle of sanitizer will be available by the entry door).
— Another usher will point to the designated X for each person (front to back)
— Collections will be upon entry to or exit from the church (not during service)
— Parishioners are not to move around the church to light candles or venerate icons. A designated “candle-lighter” will be assigned to do this task for attendees
— Parishioners are not to kiss icons on the surface
— No one is allowed to enter the Altar except the clergy and assigned altar servers
— There will be no processions or censing into the nave of the church
— All attendees must remain at their designated spots, including family members (except infants or young children in hand)
— No prosfora loaves / commemoration slips are permitted at this time (names may be emailed or texted in advance of the service)
During Holy Communion
— Communicants must line up row by row (with help of usher) and remain 6 ft apart
— Communicants may remove their masks only momentarily to commune
— Priest and assisting acolytes will wear masks during Communion
— The red cloth will be held underneath, but absolutely no wiping of mouths
— The priest will keep multiple spoons in vessel of grain alcohol, and rotate them after each communicant
— There will be no antidor or zapivka at this time
After services
— After the dismissal, the priest will give a general blessing of all with the Cross (no line)
— Ushers will dismiss the parishioners row by row, and attendees must immediately exit
— No social gatherings, food offerings, or congregating inside or outside is allowed at this time
Confession
Please call me to set up an appointment for Confession. These are the guidelines for Confession or Counseling that we will follow:
— Confession must be done alone in an empty church, preferably by appointment
—The priest must stand 8 ft away from the person confessing, both wearing masks
— During the prayer of absolution, the priest must remain 8 ft away, must lift up his stole in the air, and say the prayer from a distance (Archbishop has so blessed)
— Absolutely no phone confessions are permitted any longer (Archbishop has banned)
— Counseling can be done with parishioners, also from 8 ft distance, wearing masks
I understand that this might seem like an overload of information, but this will have to be done to keep us all safe. And, this is what we are used to by now, most of the time, when we go to a store or to any other public place, so it shouldn’t be something very difficult to implement in order for all of us to participate in services.
I pray that the re-opening of our church will also become an opportunity for the rejuvenation of our spiritual lives.
And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.
In Christ,
Fr. Igor
