His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon Presides at 110th Anniversary Celebrations at St. Vladimir Church in Trenton, NJ

On the weekend of October 18–19, 2025, at the invitation of His Eminence Archbishop Michael, Archbishop of New York and the Diocese of New York and New Jersey, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon made an archpastoral visit to St. Vladimir Orthodox Church in Trenton, NJ, to lead the parish in celebrating its 110th anniversary.
The weekend began on Saturday evening with the celebration of Great Vespers, served by the parish rector, Priest Volodymyr Chaikivskyi. At the close of the service, Father Volodymyr warmly welcomed His Beatitude and His Eminence to the parish, expressing the community’s joy at their presence for this milestone event. Before joining the faithful for a festive meal in the parish hall, Metropolitan Tikhon visited a traveling icon exhibition curated by iconographer Lydia Lynette Hull, brought to the parish especially for the occasion.
On Sunday morning, Metropolitan Tikhon presided at the hierarchical Divine Liturgy, concelebrated by Archbishop Michael, Father Volodymyr, and visiting clergy.
In his homily, His Beatitude reflected on the Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:5–15), focusing on the image of the seed as the word of God. “Our task,” he said, “begins with hearing and keeping the word. We hear it each Sunday and on feast days in the Church, when the Gospel is proclaimed—but we are also called to search the Scriptures daily. St. Ambrose tells us that God still walks in Scripture as in a garden, calling out for fallen man. If we wish to hear His voice, we must read His word.”

Following the Anaphora, His Eminence Archbishop Michael ordained Mr. Alen Basil Berck to the holy diaconate. At the conclusion of the Liturgy, a Synodal Gramota was presented to the parish in honor of their 110 years of faithful witness. Metropolitan Tikhon also offered heartfelt greetings to Archpriest Paul Shafran, Pastor Emeritus, who served the parish with dedication for over seventy years. As a token of gratitude and love, the parish gifted His Beatitude a new set of episcopal vestments.
The celebration concluded with a joyful anniversary banquet in the parish hall, bringing to a close a weekend of spiritual thanksgiving and community fellowship.
