Martyr Melitinḗ of Marcianopolis (Commemorated on September 16)

The Holy Martyr Melitinḗ lived in Markianopolis, Thrace, during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius (138–161). A devout Christian, she boldly preached the Gospel, converting many pagans. Gifted by God with the power to work miracles, she destroyed idols through her prayers.
The local ruler, Antiochus, a fierce persecutor of Christians, had her arrested and tried to force her to worship pagan gods. When threats failed, he handed her over to his wife and other women to persuade her with flattery. Instead, Melitinḗ converted the ruler’s wife to Christianity, and together they secretly led many others to Christ.
When Antiochus discovered this, he ordered both women beheaded. Saint Melitinḗ faced martyrdom with courage and gained eternal glory.
Later, a Christian named Akakios from Macedonia came upon her unburied relics. Gaining permission to take them, he set out for home by sea but fell ill and died en route. The ship docked at Limnos, where Saint Melitinḗ was buried. Akakios, a lover of martyrs, was laid to rest beside her.
Troparion — Tone 3
Your holy martyr Melitίnē, O Lord, / through her sufferings has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God. / For having Your strength, she laid low her adversaries, / and shattered the powerless boldness of demons. / Through her intercessions, save our souls!
Kontakion — Tone 2
(Podoben: “You sought the heights...”)You appeared as a bright star announcing Christ with your radiance, / which is repulsive to this world, O Martyr Melitίnē; / extinguishing the allure of false gods, / you enlighten the faithful, / always interceding for us all.
