Saint Myron the Wonderworker, Bishop of Crete - Troparion & Kontakion (Commemorated on August 8)

Saint Myron, the Bishop of Crete, was a wonderworker and man of profound virtue. In his youth, he lived as a family man and worked humbly as a farmer. Known for his goodness and generosity, he never turned away anyone in need, offering help to all who sought it.
On one occasion, thieves broke into his threshing floor to steal grain. Rather than reacting with anger, Saint Myron responded with kindness—he even helped them lift a sack of grain onto their shoulders. So deeply were the thieves moved by his compassion that they were ashamed of their actions and repented, choosing from that moment on to lead honest and honorable lives.
Out of deep respect for his holiness and wisdom, the people of his native city, Raucia, urged him to accept ordination to the priesthood. In time, he was chosen to become the Bishop of Crete.
As a bishop, Saint Myron shepherded his flock with wisdom, humility, and great care. God blessed him with the gift of working miracles. During a severe flood of the River Triton, Saint Myron miraculously halted the waters, walking across the riverbed as if on dry ground. He then handed his staff to a bystander and instructed him to return it to the river with the command for the waters to resume their flow—which they did, by the power of God.
Saint Myron served faithfully until his repose in the Lord at the age of 100, around the year 350. His life remains a shining example of humble service, divine grace, and unwavering faith.
Troparion — Tone 4
In truth you were revealed to your flock as a rule of faith, / an image of humility and a teacher of abstinence; / your humility exalted you; / your poverty enriched you. / Hierarch Father Myron, / entreat Christ our God / that our souls may be saved.
