Venerable Patapius of Thebes (Commemorated on December 8)

Saint Patapios was born in Thebes to a devout Christian family. After reaching adulthood, he rejected worldly vanity and withdrew to the Egyptian desert, where his ascetic life drew many seeking guidance despite his desire for silence. Known for offering hospitality and spiritual counsel to all who came, he eventually moved to Constantinople and lived near the Blachernae church, where his gifts of healing attracted the sick and troubled.
Among the many who sought his help was a woman suffering from an advanced and agonizing form of cancer. When she approached him in faith, Saint Patapios assured her that God could heal her, and at his word she was instantly cured. She departed rejoicing and proclaimed the miracle everywhere. After a life marked by holiness and wonders, Saint Patapios reposed in the Lord and was buried in the church of Saint John the Baptist.

In following your divine calling from your youth, / you shone forth upon the world with the gift of your ascetical labors. / And as one made glorious by the grace of dispassion, / you healed diverse passions. / O Venerable Father Patapios, / entreat Christ God to grant us great mercy.
Kontakion — Tone 3
(Podoben: “Today the Virgin...”)
Finding your temple to be a place of spiritual healing, / people flocked to it eagerly, O Saint. / They seek to be healed of their diseases and to receive the remission of the sins / which they committed during their lives, / for you are seen as a protector of all those in need, / O Venerable Patapios.
