New Icon of All Saints of North America to Debut at 21st All-American Council

At the upcoming 21st All-American Council, to be held July 14–18, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ, a newly commissioned official icon of All Saints of North America will be unveiled for veneration by the faithful.

In January 2024, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon issued a call for proposals for a new icon honoring all the saints of North America. Iconographers from around the world responded, and after careful review of the submissions, His Beatitude selected a design by master iconographer Anton Daineko, an instructor at the Icon School of St. Tikhon’s Art Institute in South Canaan, PA. The completed icon, finished earlier this year, has since been housed at the Chancery offices in Springfield, VA.

The icon features all the saints of North America included in the Diptychs of the Orthodox Church in America, as well as the recently canonized Righteous Olga of Kwethluk. As outlined in the original call for proposals, the central focus of the icon is Our Lord Jesus Christ enthroned in glory, flanked in diesis by His Most Pure Mother and His Forerunner, Saint John.

Following traditional iconographic form for synaxes of saints, the composition includes a significant local church in the background. At His Beatitude’s request, Mr. Daineko depicted the Church of the Ascension on Unalaska Island, Alaska—a temple originally built by the hands of Saint Innocent himself.

His Beatitude will bless the new icon during the Council, where it will remain on display for veneration throughout the event. After the Council concludes, the icon is expected to return to the Chancery in Virginia until the next All-American Council.
